Radiation Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Sterling Hospitals Rajkot, is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the latest cutting-edge technology, ultra-modern infrastructure, that uses high-energy radiation beams to treat cancer and a highly skilled team of experienced experts. This advanced department utilizes high-energy radiation beams to effectively combat cancer cells. Through two primary mechanisms, this innovative technology works to destroy cancer cells. Firstly, it can directly damage the DNA of cancer cells, leading to their demise. Alternatively, it can generate charged particles that cause further damage to the DNA of cancerous cells, ultimately inhibiting their growth and proliferation. With its unwavering commitment to excellence and its dedication to utilizing the most advanced techniques, the Department of Radiation Oncology at Sterling Hospitals Rajkot, is renowned for providing world-class cancer care to patients in need, setting a benchmark for healthcare in and beyond.

   Services/ Procedures

  • Stereotactic Radiation: At Sterling Hospitals Rajkot, Ahmedabad, our state-of-the-art facility utilizes advanced procedures for delivering highly precise and targeted radiation doses to tumors and other anatomical targets while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. Stereotactic Radiation can be categorized into different types, including:
  • Stereotactic Radio Surgery (SRS): This specialized technology is used for brain cancers, delivering a high radiation dose in a single-day session with precisely targeted radiation beams at higher doses compared to conventional radiation therapy.
  • Stereotactic Radio Therapy (SRT): We utilize this technology for fractionated stereotactic treatment of brain cancers, equally distributed between 1 to 5 single doses.
  • Stereotactic Body Radio Surgery (SBRS): This advanced technology delivers a single high-dose radiation in one session for tumors other than brain and spinal cord tumors. It is particularly beneficial for targeting small and difficult-to-reach tumors that may move due to normal body movement.
  • Stereotactic Body Radio Therapy (SBRT): This technology involves fractionated stereotactic treatment for tumors other than the brain and spinal cord.
  • Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT): At Sterling Hospitals Rajkot, Ahmedabad, we go a step further with IGRT, which integrates various biological and anatomical imaging techniques into the radiation therapy process. The overall aim of IGRT is to accurately and precisely target tumors while minimizing harm to normal tissues.
  • Rapid Arc: Our facility also utilizes Rapid Arc, an advanced technology that delivers intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) with speed and precision by modulating multiple parameters such as dose rate, gantry speed, MLC speed, MLC position, jaw tracking, and more. Rapid Arc significantly shortens treatment times compared to conventional radiation processes while enhancing therapeutic outcomes. This translates to benefits such as reduced treatment time, lower actual radiation dose, increased patient convenience, and preservation of healthy tissues.
  • Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT): Also known as "Organ Sparing" treatment, IMRT at Sterling Hospitals minimizes damage to adjacent healthy tissues by allowing oncologists to deliver radiation to tumors with greater precision and accuracy. This results in the potential for fewer side effects and higher cure rates.
  • 4D Respiratory Motion Gated Radiotherapy: Our facility also employs this highly advanced technique for cases such as abdominal and thoracic cancers, where the position of the tumor may vary depending on the patient's respiratory rhythm, causing displacement of up to 2-3 cm. Using 4D Respiratory Motion Gated Radiotherapy, we synchronize the patient's respiratory rhythm with radiation delivery, ensuring that the tumor is within the treatment field and minimizing damage to surrounding vital tissues.
  • 4D Respiratory Motion Gating - CT: In this technique, a CT image is taken in sync with the patient's breathing pattern in 4D, allowing for tracking of tumor movement and tumor delineation using advanced intensity projection software. This enhances the accuracy and precision of radiation treatment for optimal outcomes.
